The Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC)

What is the REC?

What is the REC?

The REC stands for Recruitment and Employment Confederation.  Perhaps the most understandable way that the REC can be described is as 'The OFSTED for recruitment agencies.'

The analogy however is a little unfair.  Whereas OFSTED are only responsible for the assessment of how effective a school is, the REC also provide a great deal of support and resources, whilst also providing a service that reviews the processes and the legality of a recruitment businesses operations.

Ultimately, the REC are there to keep recruiters in check.  Another difference between the REC and OFSTED is that recruitment business PAY for the privilege of being audited by the REC.  We pay a yearly membership fee to have access to the resources, training, guidance and support of the REC, as well as requesting that the REC perform an audit to check that we are performing in line to their code of practice.  This is not to be confused with the Conduct Regulations.  The code of practice is a further level of scrutiny and of expectations.
